Your First Visit

We want your first appointment to be comfortable, personalized, and free of pressure. Here's everything you need to know.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your first visit is about getting to know you, understanding your dental history, and creating a clear picture of your oral health. We take our time. No rushing. No pressure. Just a thorough exam, honest answers, and a plan that makes sense for your life. By the end of your appointment, you'll know exactly where your dental health stands and what, if anything, needs attention.

What to Bring to Your First Appointment

A valid insurance card and any coordination of benefits information

A list of any medications you are currently taking, including dosages

Information about any known allergies or medical conditions

Names and contact details of any other healthcare providers you see regularly

Any relevant dental X-rays or records from previous providers if available

Your driver's license or another form of ID

Your Health History Matters

Before we examine your mouth, we need to understand your complete health picture. Certain medications, chronic conditions like diabetes or heart disease, smoking, previous surgeries, or even recent infections can significantly affect your oral health. Please share your full medical history honestly so we can provide the safest, most effective care.

If you take blood thinners, bisphosphonates, or medications for mood disorders or high blood pressure, let us know. If you've had recent surgeries or ongoing treatments, we need to know that too. This isn't about judgment—it's about making sure we treat you safely and effectively with a full understanding of your unique health profile.

What Happens During Your First Visit

1

Review of Health History

We start with a detailed medical and dental history to understand your current health, medications, allergies, and any concerns you may have. This conversation helps us tailor your care to your unique needs and identify any conditions that may impact treatment planning.

2

Diagnostic Imaging

If necessary or not done recently, we take digital X-rays or 3D cone beam scans. Our imaging uses up to 90% less radiation than traditional X-rays and gives Dr. Sung a complete view of your teeth, roots, jawbone, and surrounding structures to catch problems early.

3

Clinical Examination

Dr. Sung will conduct a careful, hands-on examination of your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints, and soft tissues. We check for cavities, gum disease, cracks, worn enamel, TMJ issues, oral cancer signs, and anything else that could affect your oral health and overall well-being.

4

Treatment Discussion

Once we have a complete picture of your oral health, we discuss what we found, answer your questions, and explain any recommended treatments in plain language. You'll know exactly what needs attention, why it matters, and what your options are—no pressure, just honest guidance.

5

Your Questions Answered

We set aside time at the end of every first visit for your questions. No question is too small or too basic. We want you to feel informed and confident about your care. If you need time to think about treatment or want a second opinion, we fully support that.

6

Plan Your Next Steps

Before you leave, we'll help you plan your next appointment if treatment is needed. Our team will also review your insurance coverage, out-of-pocket costs, and financing options so you know exactly what to expect. No surprises, just clarity and support.
