For Dr. William Sung, dentistry isn’t just a job – it’s a family business! Dr. Sung’s father and two of his uncles are dentists. Dr. Sung was born and raised in California, and graduated from Pacific Union College in Angwin, California with a B.S. degree. He then went on to receive his dental degree from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. It was in Boston where he met his wife, and after practicing for several years in Massachusetts, decided to move back to her hometown of Houston, Texas. While he is still acclimating to the humidity, he has come to love and appreciate the friendly people, great food, and diverse culture that Houston has to offer.

Though there are many aspects of dentistry he enjoys, Dr. Sung’s main motivation is helping others. Whether he’s easing pain through a much needed dental procedure, or improving confidence with cosmetic dentistry, every patient he treats is an acknowledgement that he’s achieved his lifelong dream of working in the healthcare field. He has made a lifelong commitment to learning and keeping up with the evolving field of dentistry by taking several continuing education courses each year. Dr Sung averages almost 100 hours of CE credits each year, which is over eight times the yearly requirement for a dentist in the state of Texas! He also holds a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry which is held only by 7% of all general dentists in the State of Texas. To keep up with the latest technologies, procedures, and materials, Dr. Sung is a part of several well known groups and study clubs to providethe most comprehensive care for his patients.

Dr. Nguyen is proud to call Houston her home. She was born and raised in southwest Houston, where she attended DeBakey High School for Health Professions and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from UT Austin (Hook’em Horns!). She obtained her dental degree from Boston University in Boston, MA and met her husband, William. After practicing in Massachusetts, they decided to move back to her hometown of Houston, Texas. After working as a general dentist in Richmond for several years, Dr. Nguyen realized her passion and enjoyment working with kids and decided to go back to school to specialize in pediatric dentistry. She returned back to her dental school Boston University for her pediatric residency and specialty degree.

During her residency program, Dr. Nguyen gained insight & knowledge on treating children as young as 6 months as well as patients with special needs. When not in the office, Dr. Nguyen enjoys exploring the diverse food scene Houston offers, working out, and hiking and exploring local and national parks. “My philosophy focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles and oral habits from a young age. By introducing parents and patients to the dentist at an early age, my staff and I are able to guide parents and children as they grow, and build trusting relationships with our families. We provide treatment in a fun, gentle, and relaxing environment and believe in the importance of working together to provide the best treatment for your child.”

Dr. Van Nguyen was born in Vietnam, but raised in a small town along the Mississippi River in Minnesota. She obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Minnesota. Shortly after graduating dental school she decided to leave the Midwest and moved down to Houston to immerse herself in more diversity and warmer climate.

Dr. Van Nguyen’s path to dentistry was inspired by her general dentist from her hometown. She loves the idea of “growing” with her patients and being part of their dental health journey. Seeing improvement of patients’ oral health over time as she works to educate and fix their dental problems brings her much joy and satisfaction. Her passion in making valuable connections with her patients and providing help to those around her is deeply influenced by her small town upbringing.

Aside from helping patients, Dr. Van Nguyen’s love for art and knowledge made dentistry the ideal career for her. Restorative and cosmetic dentistry requires a keen eye for detail and precision which she thoroughly enjoys. Continuing education classes have also allowed her to maintain up-to-date with new techniques and technology.

Outside of the office, she enjoys traveling and trying new foods with her husband. She has a pomeranian whom she adores and loves to show off to anyone who asks. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, reading, knitting, and spending time with her husband and dog.
