How Does Teeth Whitening Work?

Essentially, tooth whitening products “bleach” your teeth using powerful peroxides. Usually, either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide is used.

What Can Teeth Whitening Treat?

In-office teeth whitening is the best way to get a brighter smile. First, Dr. Sung will clean your teeth thoroughly. Then, you will be given take-home trays for two weeks. This preparation process is added so that the in-office whitening is that much more effective.
Once you return to the practice, Dr. Sung will use a special compound to protect your gums during the bleaching process. This is done without a potentially harmful UV light. Instead, a highly-concentrated KOR whitening gel is applied to the teeth. The gel will do all of the bleaching without unnecessary additives. No extra steps are needed to give you beautiful, bright teeth. In as little as one appointment, you can get a smile that’s 5-10 shades brighter.
At-home teeth whitening is very similar. Dr. Sung will take impressions of your teeth and create a set of custom KOR whitening trays just for you. Instead of returning to the practice, you can simply wear these trays at home as directed by your dentist.
At-home teeth whitening usually takes a bit longer than in-office whitening, as it does not use a UV lamp to “cure” the whitening compound, but the end results are similar.
